Scott C.: Anyone here train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu locally? I know there are a couple of clubs, but just looking for some recommendations and info on costs. Got introduced to it through a club at work, and would like to look into additional training. Possibly get my son involved as well.

Karen G.: Can anyone recommend a good place for teenage girls to take self defense classes?
Carrie P.: http://batesons.ca/ My kids go here. Although they aren't teenagers, they have learned through their classes how to deal with bullies etc. If you're looking for a longer term commitment I wholeheartedly recommend them. They have some info on their website.
Recommendation for Hiscoe Jiu-Jitsu on Facebook

Katrina J.: Recommendation for best self defence classes for youth?
Chantelle S.: Hiscoe Jiu-Jitsu Absolutely amazing. My son has. Been doing it for a few years it's all about self defence especially against strangers
Bryan P.: My humble opinion. I did TKD for a couple of years in my youth. Awesome and powerful kicking techniques...problem is that kicking doesn't work when the attacker is in close. I would want my daughter in something that trains for close-quarters self-defence. It is my understanding that Hiscoe Jiu-Jitsu was developed by a long time member of the RCMP specifically for escape and evade type of combat (I do not have experience there). I have done a bit of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (offered in Chilliwack at PTT Chilliwack) and that is awesome for learning what to do in grappling specific situations. I think both Hiscoe and PTT offer free trials so maybe check them both out.

Dan G.: My boys have both trained with Sensei Steve at Hiscoe Jiu-jitsu for years. 4 isn't too young at all. They have classes for that age group. They've got a "ready, set, kiai" class as well as the "HEET" classes for the younger kids. Fantastic dojo. Regardless of which art you choose getting him into martial arts is a great parenting decision.
